Most buyers of chronograph watch movements do not even realize that there are certain rules for the use of such a modern device. Indeed, in work, it is very similar to a stopwatch.

Chronograph

A chronograph is a special device that allows you to measure time by comparing the beginning and end of specified intervals. The first chronographs were highly complex movements that literally charted time on paper. The uniqueness of chronographs is not at all in their ability to calculate time, but in the ability to record very small intervals, which is why devices - especially in their modern miniature form - are so loved by watchmakers.

The chronograph often has a central hand showing the seconds. But the main difference between this device and a stopwatch is that it can be used to count the required period of time and at the same time you do not need to switch the dial, thus, the performance of the clock mechanism itself will not be disrupted, because the time will still be displayed on the dial, and the chronograph itself continues to count down.

You can learn how to operate a chronograph in no time. Most often, the watch provides only one single control button, so the rules of use are as follows.

When the button is pressed for the first time, both the second and minute hands start and the countdown begins. When the control button is pressed again, the chronograph stops and records the elapsed time. If it is pressed a third time, the arrows simply return to their original position.

In addition, there is a movement equipped with two buttons at once. The first of them either starts the countdown or stops it, and the second is necessary to reset and return the hands to their initial position.

It is also worth mentioning that there are also watch movements with chronographs, which have a variety of additional functions. So, for example, the "fly-back" function has a reset button, which automatically restarts the countdown. When buying a movement with the monopoussair function, one button will be able to implement all the switching with a counter.

Today, modern devices with a chronograph and various functions are especially popular. And the very invention of the chronograph and its use in the watch mechanism made such a counter simply indispensable for people involved in sports, transporting goods, travelers and hiking enthusiasts.
