Cucumber is a very popular vegetable both in Russia and abroad. Pickled cucumbers are a favorite Russian snack, and fresh cucumbers are a frequent ingredient in salads. Not surprisingly, some cities around the world have erected monuments to the cucumber, paying tribute to him.
Cucumber in Lukhovitsy
In 2007, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the city, a monument to a cucumber was erected in the town of Lukhovitsy near Moscow. And this is not surprising: the sale of cucumbers is the main source of income for residents of the city, and onion cucumbers flaunt on the shelves of Moscow and the Moscow region almost all year round. Cucumbers also saved the city during a time of scarcity following the collapse of the Soviet Union. For this, grateful residents honored their breadwinner by erecting a monument in the form of a green cucumber sitting on a barrel.
In the United States, there are two monuments to the cucumber: one of them is installed in the city of Pigeon Forge in Tennessee, and the other meets those entering the city of Dillsburg in Pennsylvania.
Nezhinsky cucumber
Not far from Kiev is the Ukrainian city of Nizhyn, which is famous for its pickled and pickled cucumbers. Residents of the city are so fond of their cucumbers grown on the fertile lands of Nizhyn that they even took part in creating a model for the project of the sculptor Leonid Vorobyov. This is how a monument to Nezhinsky pickled cucumber appeared in the form of a cellar, on which there is a barrel with a cucumber on it.
Stary Oskolsky cucumber
In Stary Oskol there is also a statue depicting a cucumber chopped on a fork. It is located near an agricultural company that produces these same cucumbers. Moreover, this manufacturer is included in the register of manufacturers of environmentally friendly and safe products.
In the village of Cherkassy, Yeletsky district, a monument was erected not just to a cucumber, but to a cucumber bush. Cherkasy cucumbers feed the entire village, and the money from their sale goes to the development of Cherkassy, the construction and education of children.
Cucumber in Shklov
In the Belarusian city of Shklov, truly the most cheerful of all the monuments to the cucumber was erected. The bronze statue shows a certain peasant holding a basket of cucumbers in one hand, and a cucumber flower in the other. Ogurodets, as sculptor Andrei Vorobyov called him, has become a symbol of the city; both visitors and residents of the city are photographed with him.
Cucumber in Poznan
In the Polish city of Poznan, a cucumber monument was marked on the square where events of the International Poznan Fair are regularly held. For the first time, the fair declared itself six centuries ago and is still one of the most striking events in trade life. The fair lasts almost all year round, but it gathers the largest number of people in June, because in addition to trade, visitors can also enjoy an interesting cultural program.
