There are four types of weapons available to a civilian: firearms, traumatic, pneumatic, cold. Most of the questions arise on the latter, since everything is clear with the first three: these are pistols, rifles and machine guns designed to hit a live target or target.
What is considered a melee weapon?
Cold steel - a product or object that can be inflicted with the use of muscle force. This type of weapon is the simplest in design and is intended mainly for hand-to-hand combat.
There are several types in this category: products of the thrown type, which include a bow, a crossbow, a sling; shock type (the bulk is concentrated in the shock part); bladed (with a special blade shape); pole-arm (with a warhead firmly attached to the handle); chopping (the edge of which leaves chopped wounds); cutting (leaves cut wounds); piercing-cutting and shock-crushing.
In the trade network you can find telescopic batons, the blow of which is capable of crushing bones. These products are classified as weapons of the crushing type, as they are designed to inflict damage. According to the current provisions of the law, the purchase and storage of this type of product is not a crime. The old criminal code had Art. 218, which provided for liability for carrying edged weapons. Today, it comes only for its sale (part 4 of article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Nunchucks, brass knuckles, and flails belong to the category of cold weapons, as they can cause injuries incompatible with life. However, the legislator does not limit the manufacture, purchase and storage of these products. Responsibility comes only after they have caused harm to human health.
There is such a thing as "modified inventory" that belongs to the category of cold steel. It can be any object suitable for injury or mutilation, which has been processed for this purpose. For example, reinforcement itself is a building material. But the fittings wrapped with electrical tape for ease of coverage are edged weapons. The intentionally sharpened blade of a screwdriver is considered such.
Determining whether a knife is a melee weapon is the prerogative of the examination. But you can focus on the following parameters: length and hardness of the blade, butt thickness, design. Knives without a point, with a point 5 cm or more above the butt line, with a deflection of the butt of the blade, with a butt concave by more than 5 cm, which do not provide a reliable hold when pricked, are not melee weapons.
Should sports equipment be considered a weapon?
Sai, tonfa, bokken and many other products related to one or another martial art are classified as sporting weapons. It is undesirable to walk around the street with these items. They can be worn for training only in a sheathed form.
