Situations often occur as a result of which a citizen of Ukraine has to change his passport. This fully applies to both internal and foreign passports. However, a state fee must be paid for the issuance of a new passport.
When to get a new passport
The passport of a citizen of Ukraine is subject to replacement in case of its loss, theft, deterioration, as well as if any inaccuracies in the records are found in it. Also, a new passport is issued when a person's initials change: last name, first name or patronymic. Replacement of the internal passport is carried out by the subdivision of the State Migration Service at the place of residence of the person. As a rule, you should apply for a new passport within one month after the relevant circumstances arise.
For similar reasons, it will be necessary to change the passport. In addition, it should be remembered that in Ukraine, a passport needs to be replaced every 10 years.
The production of a new internal passport also takes 1 month. For this period, a person can be issued a temporary identity card free of charge, which will replace his passport.
How much does it cost to replace a passport
For the issuance of a new passport of a citizen of Ukraine, a mandatory state fee is levied in the amount of two non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens. Today, 1 non-taxable minimum is 17 hryvnia. Therefore, when exchanging a passport, you will need to pay 34 hryvnia excluding the bank commission. The relevant details can be obtained from the State Migration Service before starting the procedure for issuing a passport.
When exchanging a passport on the territory of Ukraine, the state duty is paid in the amount of 10 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens (170 hryvnia). If the passport changes outside Ukraine, you will need to pay the consular fee. Its amount and the procedure for making a payment should be clarified with the Ukrainian Embassy in the respective country.
In Ukraine, some categories of citizens are exempt from paying state fees. These include, in particular, Chernobyl victims, as well as disabled people of groups 1 and 2. In addition, the state duty is not charged upon the first issue of the internal passport.
In addition to the state duty, in a number of situations, an administrative fine is paid when replacing an internal passport. This happens when a passport is lost (except for theft), as well as in the case of its deliberate or careless damage. The amount of the fine is from 17 to 51 hryvnia. In the event that a person is brought to justice, a decision on the case of an administrative offense is drawn up by an authorized employee of the State Migration Service.
