The history of the ring of purity
The idea of creating a ring of purity appeared in some religious communities around 1990 in America. Members of these communities invited adolescents to put their signatures on special cards promising to keep their chastity.
Six years later, in 1996, the Silver Ring movement emerged and spread rapidly across America. It was initiated by a married couple who belonged to a Christian community that preached sexual abstinence until legal marriage.
This congregation held workshops and meetings to educate adolescents about the pitfalls of sexuality. After these workshops, purity rings were handed out as a thank you for participating in them. And the teenagers joined the movement, swore an oath to be celibate.
And a couple of years later, the initiative to distribute the rings of purity was supported by the American government, which considered that such workshops were the best way to educate young people about safe sex.
The effectiveness of the idea of a ring of purity lies in its elementary character. Nobody limits a teenager who has made a vow, showing complete trust in him, which is embarrassing and ugly to deceive. The ring, on the other hand, constantly reminds its owner of this promise.
Today, purity rings can be found in every jewelry store in America, and the designs of these products are striking in their variety. So it can be argued that purity rings have created and occupied a completely new niche in the jewelry market.
