Sending a regular parcel is straightforward. However, the matter becomes more complicated if it is necessary to send an item made of fragile material, because in the process of transportation the parcel may turn over, fall, as a result of which the package and its contents may be deformed.
When sending a fragile item by a postal service or a transport company, the main task is to protect the contents of the parcel from mechanical damage resulting from drops, bumps and wrinkling of the package. The packaging of the item must protect the contents and maintain its shape.
To protect fragile items during shipment, you must use a box made of hard materials - plastic, wood, metal. Such a box will provide maximum protection of the contents from external damage. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to find boxes made of similar materials, so the most common type of packaging is a cardboard box.
Packing the item into a box
It is very important that the fragile item in the box does not dangle or change its position. To do this, it must be fixed with one of the following images.
Wrap a fragile object with a film with air bubbles in several layers, thus creating a protective layer between the box and the object. You can choose or make a box of such a size so that the free space after packing the item into it remains as little as possible. It is necessary to fill the remaining space with soft materials that retain their shape. Suitable synthetic winterizer, foam rubber, crumpled newspapers, cotton wool, foam balls, in some cases sawdust and wood shavings can be used. Fill the entire volume of the box with a piece of Styrofoam, and then cut the indentation to the shape of the item, just like home appliance manufacturers do. Finally, you can firmly fix the product inside the box with tape, having previously wrapped it in bubble wrap, paper or other wrapping material.
Additional precautions
For greater safety of a fragile item during shipment, you can pack it in two boxes. You can wrap a small box with a sent item with bubble wrap, put it in a larger box and fill the space between the walls of the large and small boxes with soft elastic materials - crumpled newspapers, padding polyester balls, pieces of foam rubber, etc.
The outside of the box must be carefully sealed several times with tape so that the contents do not fall out during transportation. The box may be labeled “Caution: fragile!” To draw attention to its contents during handling.
