Getting out of pits is part of the science of survival, which, unfortunately, is very poorly taught. Young people receive scraps of knowledge on life safety, and adults have to dig deeper into everything on their own. And after all, many go on hikes and trips associated with hazards, without the baggage of the necessary knowledge. What to do if you managed to fall into a hole?

Step 1
Check if you still have your cell phone with you. If you are lucky and your mobile is with you, safe and sound, call the emergency services. MTS and Megafon subscribers should dial 010, Beeline subscribers - 001. Calls to these numbers can be made even with a zero balance. Another option is to use a single emergency number 112. You can call it not only if there is no money in your account, but even if the SIM card is blocked or missing. There is, however, a danger of not getting into the coverage area.
Step 2
Shout loudly so that people who may be nearby know that you are sitting in the hole and can help you. When screaming is unbearable, throw small pebbles out of the pit. If you are wearing a bright hat or scarf and are lucky enough to find a long enough rod at the bottom of the hole, attach a rag to the top end of the rod and wave it around to attract attention. If someone comes to your call, ask them to throw a rope, lower a ladder, or call rescuers.
Step 3
Look for boulders and debris at the bottom of the pit, which can serve as a kind of stand you can climb on to reach the edges.
Step 4
If the hole is earthen, examine its walls for protrusions and tree roots. Try to get out by grabbing onto them.
Step 5
Look around for any sharp, solid objects at the bottom of the pit that will be useful to dig some kind of steps. Of course, this can only be done in a dirt pit. The steps should be cut perpendicular to the wall.
Step 6
If the hole is narrow enough and you are physically strong, try to push up against the walls.
Step 7
If there are boards, sticks at the bottom of the pit, try to install them in an inclined position in relation to the pit walls. Secure the top edge as securely as possible so that it doesn't collapse under your weight. It's great if you can put it on a strong root. When circumstances permit, it is good to put two parallel boards next to each other, then it will be quite easy to climb over them.
Step 8
If you find yourself in a hole with someone else, let the lighter of you stand on the shoulders of the other - perhaps this way he can get out and call for help.
